A penny for your thought

I'm thinking of getting Asus EEE 1000H. I read the reviews ok naman. Do you guys have any suggestions or recommendations?

Main purpose: Mobility when out of town. internet. communication. upload programs for work. Still using my desktop

But the price around 24~25k, i feel kind of high. Waiting it out till early Jan before I decide, price might drop or free giveaways.

/******/

Have a problem with Cebu Pacific. I booked a flight paid using credit card. The flight got canceled. So i expect a refund. its been 6 months and wla pa rin! I called up and emailed. They say action is being done, but I still don't see the money. Hey anyone out there who has the same problem?

/******/

I was thinking of having a new direction with my CF Bible study group. As I was reading the Living by the book again (yes i started doing the report :P) I was thinking of them. Well fact #1 I won't be staying with them forever. #2 They got to learn to lead or else they'll be depending on someone else's chewed food. #3 Most of my members are mature and will be future leaders.

There was an analogy on the book about teaching people how to swim.
Method 1:
You can throw him into the water and see how he does.
Method 2:
Show him the basics: doggy paddle, breathing... etc Basically teach them how to swim.

I'm not saying i'm like Michael Phelps, but my point is they need to learn to handle the Bible on their own. They need to eat "solid food"

The problem I'm thinking. Its going to take commitment and effort on their part. Meeting 2 hours for a month ain't enough they got to read at home. Our progress is going to be slow, I mean the other groups are going at the rate of half a chapter per meeting. I will have to slow it down. Anyways I'll talk to them about it.

/*****/

Wow I got an answered prayer today. I was reading Psalms 17

Psalms 17: 6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.

I was asking God a question and suddenly out of nowhere my friend gave me the answer. Yes I feel so relieved. Have you ever experienced sleepless nights? Ang sarap ng tulog ko now.

/*****/

last problem. Paano kaya yung food by the tenor for this sunday party? Bad trip! If only I know how to cook, not just eat.

I flunked ABC

Guess what? I just learned that I flunked ABC (Adult Bible Study Class). The last time I failed it was thesis ( and I still hold a grudge on a certain person for that. jk :) ) I don't like to fail. Ironically I'm part of the teaching ministry too ;P and actually this was my 1st ABC class too.

Just to clarify I failed due to absences. i think i missed 4 times. I have to be honest 1 was because tinatamad ako. 1 due to AZCOP camp. the other 2 cuz a certain someone (you know who i'm talking about) needed a guitarist for Singspiration and well I'm not really sure it went well.

Anyways our teaching department head was gracious she told me I can still pass "Hermaneutics class" if I copy someone's note and make some sort of report. But me and my big mouth, I voluntereed to read Living by the Book again and make a report. What was I thinking? Now come to think about it copying someone else's notes is much easier, but only if I can find my notes again. Ok who borrowed my notes? Please give it back.

Living by the Book. Highly recommended. This book opened my eyes into learning how to interpret the Bible properly. Very easy to read but lots of homework. Trust me after this book, reading the Bible will be very exciting.

Ezra

Yes finished reading Ezra! I think I finished all of the Prophets. Finally. After putting it off all these years. When I thought about Ezra I was thinking boring yata to. But when I started reading ok pala. Share ko 4 Miracles that happened

Miracle #1: Going back to Israel

King Cyrus of Persia was just seating on his throne and suddenly a thought came up to him "Hey why don't I send back the Jews to Jerusalem and ask them to rebuild the Temple of God. We'll pay for the whole thing." King Cyrus was not a Jew. I don't know what he read the night before or what he thought of. But all of the sudden he makes this decision. I was thinking it was not a strategic move. What can he gain from this? Asking the Jews to go back he might as well start a rebellion in his kingdom. Well the Bible says it was God who moved him.

Now the Jewish people, imagine your a 3rd generation Jew living comfortably in the most modern city of that time and then your ask to move back to the land where you grandfather came. Never been there before. All you know that its the most backward place. Would you live in a place no electricity, no running water, no TV and no Internet? You know some people could die of boredom ;) Well God moved them to. Its a miracle God moved their hearts to do His will.

Miracle #2: Getting rid of the troublemakers

Well their building the temple, of course the Jews had enemies too. They tried infiltration, discouraged them, threatened them and even hired counselors or experts to ruin their plans. So they continued doing that until a new king arose King Darius. Remember Piatco when Erap was president the project was legal but when GMA came on board suddenly it was illegal. Well the enemies were wise, they knew new king means new policies. Ok so they wrote a letter saying that this project was illegal. So a TRO was issued. So Haggai and Zechariah wrote a letter to King Darius saying "Ok go back to your records see that this was decreed by King Darius." So they looked at the records and lo and behold it was there. You know King Darius could have said "So what? I'm the new king. New king, new rules". Maybe Darius was thinking, if Cyrus made this plan there must be a good reason for it. Anyways whatever the reason, one thing for sure God's hand was there. He moved Darius to help finish the Temple. The plans of the enemies backfired.

Miracle #3: God protecting them

New king again, King Artaxerxes. This time Ezra comes into the picture. The new king was moved by God to offer treasures and gifts back to the Jews. He like hands them a blank check and then tells them go back and make a offering to God. Alright?! Well not quite. Ezra had to bring all these treasures back to Jerusalem and it was a long and dangerous journey. Ezra could have asked for a security detail but he thought what would king Artaxerxes think. If your God is the real God, why can't he protect you? So they fast and prayed and they reached the Jerusalem safely. Miracle yes. I'm a type of person who likes to worry and when we were going to and from the Azcop camp. I was thinking, a thousand things could go wrong. But God's hand was there. Uy sayang for those who did not attend.

Miracle #4: God deals with their sin.

The Jews were back in their land and 1st thing they do intermarriage. Wait before you say anything, the main point here is that they married people who worshiped other Gods. That meant they would lead to worship other Gods that's what got them exiled the first place. No holds bar, he deals with their sin. as you can see on the list. Walang kaibigan or kamaganak. If you sin your on the list. Notice even some Levites were on the list. It really is a miralce when God opens the eyes of the people see their mistakes and turn back to God.

So go read Ezra, highly recommended. Right now I'm going to finish Psalms.

more things on my mind

Next year you might be contemplating to join a ministry and I just wanted to share this:

-Its an investment. We are investing our time, money, emotions, feelings and relationships. There are ups and downs.

-God will not short change you. You might think "lugi ako" when you serve God. For example, your stuck at choir practice while everyone is going to gimik or you want to spend time with your friends (or a certain someone) but you have a meeting. Sometimes people don't even appreciate what your doing. But you know what I realized it is more blessed to give than to receive. Like a farmer who plants its going to be hard, will require sweat and patience. But once you see the fruits of your labor. Grabe your heart will be filled with joy.

-I learned that if you want to break your pastor's heart, just turn away from the Lord. Thats the level of emotion and feelings we invest.

- We cannot change people, only God can. We think we can fix this person or that person but we can't. We are just the tool. Let God use us.

- You will be ministered too. Many times I was encouraged by the songs we practiced at choir or by the people i work with.

- You will grow. You will be forced to research on the Bible study materials. You have to read 2 hours of materials just for a 30min group Bible study. Just imagine the things you personally learned.

The game we lost

I was really pumped up and focused for this game. I prepared myself for this. Right after tip off everything not only went really well, every shot was going in. Woah! Everyone was red hot. Jumped to a big early lead. Was thinking in my mind , we are going to take this game. But the second half was a whole different story. Everything just went cold. We had some plays, the execution was good, problem was it just won't go in. Whatever lead we had got erased. Not only that tambak pa. I just couldn't believe it. When the final whistle blew, I just sat there thinking What just happend? Bad trip talaga! Blaming and pointing fingers at each other, even God was blamed too. All my hopes got dashed. I got really depressed and couldn't sleep for days. Felt like a big loser with the consecutive losses. Couldn't stop comparing to the other teams.
When we started to refocus and analyze our game plan we realized that we rushed it. Too many fast breaks. The shots were pilit pa. We were lucky the 1st half but the 2nd half wla na. I recalled the movie Facing the Giants the coach "... we praise God when we win, we prais God when we lose" Got to move on and focus on the next game

Singspiration 12/7/08

Ok I have to prepare my singspiration in advance cuz going to Azcop next week

Text: 2 Tim 4:1-5

1In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

Preacher: Rev. Lim

Main Point: Preaching the Gospel

Background: Christians during this time were being persecuted. Paul is in jail and knows that his time will be up. Timothy is scared. Not only that false teachers are on the lose saying all kinds of hypocrisy. 3:10 Paul reminds Timothy, cuz he knows 1st hand what Paul suffered. V3:12 tells us that Christians will be persecuted. v. 3:13 tells us that people will become worse. v.3:15-17 points us to the Bible as our guide and standard.

v.4:1 knowing that we will all face Judgment? Knowing that we will face God at the end of our life. Knowing that He will come back again. With this in mind. How should our attitude be? We should be prepared to tell others about Christ. Its one thing to have the tools but its another thing if you know how to use it. v4:3 tells us that there will be a time when people will not listen to God's Word anymore. Just what they want to hear. How true? If you don't get convicted then there's something wrong. God's word is a sword and it cuts deep.

Well its the first week of December, Christmas is near and not only that this is going to be a special day cuz its joint service baptismal day. Meaning service starts at 9am ( yes don't need to wake up early :) ) but there is no take 2 just 1 round. Well a lot of people will be baptized that day, so definitely no overtime. I remember my Baptismal testimony, had to do it in Chinese pa.

1.) Shout to the Lord

Opening Song. I choose this song cuz i had wanted to start slow and build up. Start with a familiar song. Maybe start with chorus 1st. I wonder if there is Chinese version of this.

2.) Joy to the World

Christmas is near so I'm goign to sing a Christmas song. Actaully our topic today is about preaching the Gospel and this song just says just that. English and min nan hua

3.) He is Lord

Then I'm going to jump into he is Lord. I want to make it lively. I was reminded of this verse 2 tim 2:8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel... Yes Jesus i raised from the dead. Wow what a gospel! English and Min na hua. Sorry no guo yu this round.

4.) The offering

by Paul Baloche. A "new" song, cuz never been sung at church before. I choose this song cuz I was thinking about the people going to be Baptised. Its a big step. Their going to declare their love for God and they want to follow him. Plus may Christmas version pa to.

Things on my mind Part 2

I wanted to continue writing last night but my mind just shut down. Zzzz...

/*****/

Had this goal of reading the OT prophet books that I avoid. Finished reading Jeremiah and Daniel. I have lots of questions about Daniel. There's a big difference in just reading and studying it. Hmmm I wonder if the things Daniel mentioned have already passed or are things still to come? Anyways impt thing is God is still in control.

/*****/

Started reading Ezra today. Lesson learned: God still moves people. 1:1 & 1:5. He is working in people lives. He is in control He can make things happen to glorify His name.

Application: We can't make people believe in God. God does it. All we can do is let God use us.

/******/

Hey watch out for our Christmas Play this Dec. FYI, put your Chinese hat on cuz its there are no subtitles.

/*****/

When I think of the Azcop theme, the Michael Jackson song "...its black, its white, yeah yeah yeah" keeps popping in my head.

till next time...

Things on my mind

I don't like writing bad about someone or something. But I just got to tell you about Epson Printers. I think its just a rip off. Internally they made a program in the printer that locks your computer I think every 1000 or so pages. You have to go to an authorize Epson service center to have it "unlocked". Actually they just stick a cable to your printer and press a button. In less than 5 mins its done. Guess how much they charge?
P600. thats right. a new low end inkjet printer cost 2,000+ its like 25% of the price already. Not sure if other brands do the same thing. Sulit talaga yung Laser jet. Yun lang nga black and white only.

/******/

Don't tank up or store on gas, LPG. Prices are dropping. Metals and scrap are going down too. There will be winners and losers. Too bad didn't sell some when the prices were high.

/*****/

Law of Supply and Demand. I can now see it at work. The more are produced, the cheaper it gets. Hey i use to spend around 20K for a good CPU, right now mga 10K+ ok na.

/*****/

Hey read my friend and groupmate's blog. See how God saved his life. I asked him to share what happened to him at CF, so touching . Makes you want to treasure the important things in life. hehehe

/*****/

jammed 2 fingers again playing bball. Hey i think we might end up 3rd place (ok fine 3rd from the last) not bad for a rookie team. Next year have plans to start a league.

/****/
Hey was talking to a friend and they shared this to me.

Dead Air

geography: an area where the air covered by the mountains. so the strong winds will have a hard time reaching it. Ex CAMANAVA area cuz sabi yung may mountians covering the area.

electronics: Area where no broadcast signal can reach it.

slang: walang papagusapan. aka boring

/******/

AZCOP camp 16 days to go. ok time to work na. hehehe

/*****/

Hey i met 5 new people this Sunday at church. 2 of them I already forgot the name. 2 of them I still remember. the other one kilala ko na pala dati. hehehe. I was surprised to see her. Haven't seen her for a long time. I knew she looked familiar. anyways good thing she started joining again. Hope that God will lead these people more closer to Him.

I don't get it why people (taling about the Christians) don't like to welcome the new comers. They came to church already.Ito na nga yung great opportunity for friendship evangelism. But everyone is in their own little comfort zone.

UECM-Gerizim finally gets their first win

It was a greatly anticipated match up in the PCIBL League. Both team have came in hungry for their first win. UECM-Gerizim team was just reeling in from a 4 point heart breaking defeat vs. UEC Greenhills. They were leading in the 1st 3 quarters but slipped the game in the last quarter.

The joint UEC Malabon - Gerizim Team came into the game missing some of their key players. Only 9 players were able to play. Coach Harry, Migel and Ernest wasn't able to come due to commitments. Team Adviser Kelvin Hya took helms to stir the team. Main post up man Ahya Solomon was playing with an injured leg. Guards Ralph and Erwin were tasked in bringing the ball down the court. Veteran big men Nicolson, Stewart, Huahua hya and jojo were tasked to guard the paint. College Fellowship had 4 of its own playing in the game. Rookies Nikko Chua, Raphael Sy, Ernest Lim and second year, Daniel Yam. Daniel is playing as a forward for BSOP team. Even though they are all pals at church, he won't let his friendship get in the way in bringing his game on court. Nikko and Raphael having a great joy ride to the game were pumped up to give their all. Hot hands Ptr Herwin and Ptr. Johnson who use to particum at UECM were there playing for the BSOP team

A record breaking crowd showed up for the game. Counted about 50 people showed up to cheer their team. (ok thats a lot compared to the previous games:) ) In attendance were Rev Lim and his family. BSOP teachers and staff were there. Cheng family was there to support Solomon hya. Hua2 hya and his family were there. Gerizim fans were there too. Coach Kelvin's ever supportive family was there. College Fellowship fans showed up to support, even though it was finals week :)

UECM-Ger jumped on early lead at the 1st half of the game. They were leading by 10 pts. but BSOP didn't back down. They made a surge at the 3rd quarter cutting the lead to just 5 pts. You could feel the tension in the court as both Rev Lim of UECM and Bro Simon of Gerizim were on their feet. UECM-Ger Team learned their lessons from their previous game and were determined not to let the game slip away. On the fourth quater Coach Kelvin had trouble rotating his tired 9 man rotation compared to the 12 players BSOP had. The relentless defense of BSOP made it difficult that made Coach Kelvin had to call a couple of time out and refocus the team. BSOP got in to early foul trouble getting team penalty, which was the break UECM-Ger needed. The fight wasn't over until the last few mins of the game when UECM-Ger broke away and sealed the game. The game ended with 80-62. After the game people were shouting "cheese burgers!" to celebrate the win but wait! May melamine din daw yung cheese :) So everbody went home na lang happy. College fellowship went out to celebrate the win. Yeah! Too bad i forgot to bring my digital camera

/******/

points to ponder: Lebron James led the NBA in scoring, 30 pts per game. His 3-point shooting percentage is 31.5% meaning for every 10 shots he will miss 7 shots. We always see him in the highlight reels scoring all the time but in reality he misses too. Hey ain't life like that? If you don't take the shot how will you know.

I've had questions

I've had questions, without answers
I've known sorrow, I have known pain
But there's one thing, that I'll cling to
You are faithful, Jesus You're true

When hope is lost, I'll call You saviour
When pain surrounds, I'll call You healer
When silence falls, You'll be the song within my heart

In the lone hour of my sorrow
Through the darkest night of my soul
You surround me and sustain me
My defender, forevermore

I will praise You, I will praise You
When the tears fall, still I will sing to You
I will praise You, Jesus praise You
Through the suffering still I will sing

Singspiration

First Sunday Morning of the month. So its my turn to song lead again. I went to church early. Suddenly I find myself sweating and getting nervous before the service starts. I wore my maroon long sleeve and dark tie. Its the 1st Service, but the crowd is kinda big compared to previous 1st services. I try to psych myself before I go up.

Ok game time! I go up and I have this joke on my mind. I start saying the joke and bam! I forget the punch line. Everybody gives me this weird look. So I just smile and move on to the first song.

First song is "Lord reign in me". So i say lets sing the first song. The pianist and organist start playing and wait theres something wrong. Their playing "Doxology" "Praise God from whom all blessings flow..." So I say ok wait i think there is a mistake first song is "Lord reign in me" So the Accompanists start playing the right song. Whew! I'm kinda sweating now.

So we start singing and I noticed something wrong . The Congregation isn't singing. So I look around and the LCD is blank. Ok whats happening? I look up and the LCD guy is motioning with his hands that I didn't give him the lyrics.

AHHHH! I'm Dead meat! Puff! I wake up. Wow! that was a nightmare. Its 4am sunday morning 7 days before game time. I usually get nightmares the night before I go up stage but this is a week before. I remember my first translation I had 3 nightmares on one night. But this is new, one week before and I start getting nightmares :(

I asked my fellow co-workers about getting nervous and in my mind these guys are professionals but they tell me they still get nervous. I guess you can't get rid of stage fright you just have to face it head on. I have to be honest I can song lead but its not my forte. I want to do it but I feel other people are more qualified in doing it.

I wanted to write down why i chose the songs for this coming Sunday

Text: Eph 6:21-22
21Tychicus, the dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know how I am and what I am doing. 22I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may encourage you.

Speaker: Rev Lim

Topic: Dealing with God, Coworkers and Christians

Background: Rev Lim is wrapping up his series on Eph. He just finished talking about the armor of God. So he is now talking about dealing with with fellow believers.

Tychicus, good thing I did a little research on 2 tim and we touched on Tychicus. Well he is a co-worker of Paul. Everything said about him is good. He is a faithful servant and dependable.

Well Rev Lim didn't give me an outline. So i'm thinking maybe he wants to talk about encouragement or building up one another.

Congregation: Now this is my dilemma.
We have the old timers. Grandmothers, The 1st and 2nd generation Chinese. maybe 50 years old and above. They like to sing hymns especially from the 閩南聖詩

Chinese Mainlanders. no english or 闽南话. Just 普通话.

The 2nd or 3rd generation Chinese. They can sing min nan hua & English. But prefer in English

the 3rd and 4th generation the "Youth" and non-chinese speaking group. Just sing English songs and sing silently on the Chinese songs. The like Hillsongs.

So I have to balance the songs to fit the congregation. ITs obvioud that I can't please everyone.

Songs:

Opening song: Blessed be the name of the Lord
I wanted a fast lively song. Something to get the people to focus on God.

At first I was going to choose Lord reign in me. But i went to this concert and they were singing Blessed be the name of the Lord. It reminded me about things that are happeing in our lives. its easy to say bless the lord when everything is ok. but when things go wrong can we really say "blessed be the name of the lord"? I was thinking about the students who are having their exams, the businessman with work problems, the guy who got a "No" answer, the people who lost their love ones... Got to focus on God. Forget about the problems. So what if you have that problem? That doesn't change who God is and his promises to you.

Second song this one I change to Why do I sing about Jesus. A hymnal. English and chinese. Maybe have a responsive reading here. Then tell them about the story of the guy who went to see the doctor, maybe in chinese. We encourage others by talking about Jesus

3rd song maybe make this a medley, Make me a blessing. Instead of focusing on our problem let us be a blessing to others.

4th song Not to us by Micheal W. Smith. This is an old song but its new. For the MWS fans they will be familiar with this. Its kind of a gamble. Teaching a new song. Might repeat this more. I might want to talk about the basketball team here and how we should not just seek winning but glorifying God. Maybe add a joke :) btw latest update record as of now is 0-4 lost by just 4 pts. Next week is the championship match with BSOP hehehe. gonna engourage people to watch this one.

5th song I choose to worship. This is english but am not sure if people are familiar with this. I recall singing this at church before but not recently. My point here is bad things might be happening around us but we choose to worship God.

Commuion: As bread that is broken. Ok i'm going to do another gamble commuion song I'm going to sing somethign new. I know this is an old song. So I hope the people recall this.

OK still subject to change. But this is my plan as of now.

Things to do this week:
1.) work on my spiritual life. I don't want to be a hypocrite. But I've been out of focus this week, I've been thinking about something all week and I couldn't get it of my head. its affecting my rel with my parents and my work. Set prayer time.

2.) Prepare for Bible study opening of Titus

3.) Fri Bible study group Evaluation. 6pm

4.) Work on my back and legs.

5.) Shine my shoe. Get a hair cut.

6.) Pratice Singpiration.

7.) follow-up groupmates

8.) Wed, holiday. Was planning something but... in ques?
