Some reviews that I'd like to share

The Jeepney Magazine

http://www.thejeepney.com

A friend gave me a brochure about The Jeepney Magazine. Its a Christian Street magazine that lets you hear the voice of the poor.

You can download an issue of the magazine for free. I haven't seen this magazine yet, well I haven't been commuting for awhile too. But if you happen to see someone selling, go try and buy one it cost P100. Your not only buying a good magazine but also supporting street vendor too.

Center for Community Transformation
http://www.cct.org.ph/

This organization I learned from Elder Betram Lim when he gave a talk at our church. Just a short intro its a micro financing cooperative. What they do is lend money to the poor who need start up money for small business. One of the requirements is that they need to attend Bible Studies weekly. You would be surprised that they get a return of 90%+ on the loans. Better than what some banks are doing on their loans. I read some of the testimonies of some people who were helped to make themselves independent financially but most importantly know the richness of the Lord Jesus Christ Saving grace.

CARE Philippines

This one I can't find a web site. Ok its not the same as the CARE International. I forgot what the acronyms stand for. Its a school at Rizal. We went there and personally witnessed their work. They take underprivileged children and give them an education. These kids are not only smart, they behave well and have good manners. (Ok better than some kids at church :) ) They even have a music orchestra band, which sounds really good.

Choosing God's Best: Wisdom for Lifelong Romance by Dr. Don Raunikar

Ok i haven't written a book report in awhile. But this book is really good. The Title sounds corny but the message is not. I believe this book should be read right after reading Joshua Harris I kissed dating goodbye.

It starts of by differentiating Dating vs. Courtship. If you take a look at the origins of Dating, its something that was created in the later half of this century and promoted by Hollywood. Biblically you can't find a basis for it. While courtship means commitment, seriousness, preparedness, etc...

It states the 7 phases of of Courtship
Phase 1 to 3 Talks about the one seeking love. Do you think that your not complete and will only be complete when you finally find the "right person"? If you depend your completeness on the other person you will be very disappointed. God is enough to make you complete. He alone is sufficient for you. Then it talks about your ministry and preparedness. Ok let me give you a brief illustration. Your gonna open a business, do you just do it? Or do you research? Make some sort of business plan? Same thing if you don't have a job and want to start a family how do you expect to support your family?

Phase 4 talks about the different levels Friendships. Basically its going to take time to get to know somebody. Whoever says Love is blind or Love at first sight is in for a surprise.

Phase 5 to 7 talks about the steps taken when both parties do decide to move to a new level. Courtship needs accountability and who else would make good accountability partners but your parents.

Actually some of the things I've read here my parents taught me already. Its just that I thought that it might already been obsolete. Guys as a Christians we have a responsibility on how we treat our Christian sisters.

Well go read it.

I just have to comment on some of the movies I seen lately. The quality is degrading in terms of morals. Ok I don't want to sound holier than thou but come on can't you make movies with good and clean jokes.

God's Timing

I can't believe it I was on a momentum and bang hit a wall. I couldn't get it. I thought this was where God was leading me. Then a friend gave me this book.(Almost half way to it) I couldn't believe it. I had all things planned out already and God still has things to teach me. His teaching me not to lean on my own understanding but to trust him. Ok God I'm clueless now. I don't know what steps I will take but I trust you. Lead me.

Tips

Hey did you know that if leave your phone charger plugged in the outlet, even if you are not using it, it is still consuming power? Well cuz its just a AC to DC converter even though there is no load it is still running. You might think its just a few wattage but if you multiply it by 24 hours and then by 365 days then the very high rate of Electricity. you would be surprised. Bottom line: If your not using your charger don't leave it plugged in the outlet. Believe me it is true, my charger konked out on me and it was hot.

If your computer is using the old CRT monitor, you might consider buying LCD monitor.
1.) CRT produces more heat which means consumes more power. Plus your Aircon has to work more to keep the temperature of the office down
2.) LCD saves space. More space for my garbage to pile up ;)
3.) LCD is better for your eyes
4.) cost of LCD has dropped so no need to worry about high cost
Also if you are out on lunch or out of office. You can still leave your computer on if you want but you can turn off the power button of the LCD even if you have screen saver cuz
1.) it will mean longer life for your LCD
2.) Saves power
3.) Keeps nosy people who "accidentally" looking at the things on your computer.

Your refrigerator must be approximately have the distance of 6" from the wall. I forgot the main reason but I think it helps your compressor run less so produces less heat. If you don't have a ruler, open the palm of your hands. The distance between your thumb and your pinky finger is approximately 6"(Isang Dangkal)

Hey maybe you guys have some tips there that you would like to share?

note: more heat means more power or energy is used. So if some of your electronic gadgets heat up its taking energy.

Psalm 115:1

Psalm 115:1
Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.

This verse cut thru my heart. When sometimes I'm up there I'm thinking am I making a performance so that people would enjoy or am I really doing this for God? God forgive me.

155,000

155,000, that's approximately how many people die a day. So that would come to around 1.8 people die per second. So as you read this right now somewhere out there somebody has passed away already. This pass month i think almost every week, somebody I know or their relative has passed away.

In terms of grieving this question popped into my head. Its a given fact that everybody dies. So would it be better if you have fewer love ones so that you grieve for fewer people? I mean when you see the pain that people have to go thru for parting with someone. I know stupid question. Something like would it have been better to loved and lost, then never to have loved at all.

Just makes you think how short life is. Passing away is the course of life. Everyone has to pass though it. But God gives us hope. He sent his Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins and He conquered death. Wow what a great God we have! If we have that hope, we grieve but its more like "再见", I will see you again. This makes me see the urgency of telling my friends about the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ.

Risk

I don't like taking risk. But lately I've been doing things that well I don't even dare to do before. (Don't worry its not bad things) Its just that it finally donned on me. If I don't take the chance now, when will I start taking it? How will I know for sure if I don't take the step? I don't wanna say "what if?" I wanna say "yeah gave it my best shot and ..."

Yes I'm pessimistic and a sigurista. But now I'm thinking so what if I fail? If I fail then I fail. If I win then YES! Hey I haven't failed on all my risky efforts. To tell you the truth its exciting. Although this new hairdo, well its one of the failed risk i took :( Good thing it will grow back.

So my conclusion, Think about it first. Don't put everything in one basket. Take a "calculated" risk. Don't be afraid to fail. and most importantly Pray about it.

Proverbs 19:21 Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.:)

A note about prayer. When we pray we should not pray God please give me this or that. But God let your will be done.

But on the side let me talk about Gambling. Gambling is not taking a risk. With gambling you are the sure loser. I remember before on our debate we talked about gambling. I think I gave a very good argument. But when I saw the effects happen first hand. Man! it really sucks. Lives are ruined. Families are ruined. So if your just starting out taking small bets. STOP! it will get worse. If your way over your head, get help.

Off planning :)
